TELUGU MOVIE STARS IN POLITICAL ARENA :
The entry of the Telugu movie stars in political arena is quite so usual but nowadays we are seeing this trend much more often. Way back in 1967, Mr. Kongara Jaggayya, popularly known as 'Kanchu Kantam' or 'Kala Vachaspathi' for the Telugu people was elected as Member of Parliament from Ongole on a Congress party ticket. So, this was with in the cinema stars back then itself. But the entry of Anna NTR with Telugu Desam Party aka TDP changed the whole scenario of AP state politics. The entry, victory and his achievements can never be matched by any politician turned film actor.
Mega Star Chiranjeevi formed a party by name Praja Rajyam Party aka PRP very much recently in 2008 contesting in all the 294 assembly seats from AP in 2009 Assembly elections and winning just 18 of them. That was disastrous. He went to the people with the sole idea of becoming CM of this state with a slogan 'Maarpu' which means 'Change' (Nicely plagiarized from Barack Obama's 2008 election campaign slogan 'Change is what we need'). Least to say that the party had not won at least one Lok Sabha seat. Much more shameful was that Chiru himself lost at one of the two seats he has contested, that too at his own bastion Palakollu !
The events after the death of YS Raja Sekhara Reddy and the resignation of YS Jagan Reddy and his mother YS Vijayamma from Indian National Congress turned out in favor of Chiranjeevi. To put it in a simple way, he is the one responsible for Congress to be in power right now in this state. Old city tiger MIM has parted their ways with INC and are set to join the hands of YSRCP. Now Mr. Chiranjeevi is the Minister of Tourism (Independent charge) at the central level. This is not what his fans and community expected but has to settle down with this till 2014. If we compare Chiru with NTR, Chiru is a complete failure when it comes to Politics.
The most famous cine couple in state politics are none other than Jeevitha Rajasekhar ! They were with NTR when he was alive, were with INC when YSR was alive, were with YSR Congress until very much recently but nobody knows who they are with right now. There were rumors back in April 2012 that they are all set to join Bharatiya Janata Party aka BJP but didn't happen. Next came in the news that they are back to where they had started i.e the TDP, that too didn't happen. And their animosity with Mega family is well known to all the people of AP. They cannot go to the INC again, can they?
Ghattamaneni Krishna aka Superstar Krishna was elected to the Lower House of the Indian parliament from Eluru in 1989 from Congress party. Now recent rumors are that his daughter Manjula is expecting an MLA ticket from YSR Congress to contest from Puttur at the 2014 Assembly elections. Even Rebel Star Krishnam Raju was elected as an MP from Narsapuram in 1999 from BJP. Murali Mohan contested for the MP in 2009 from the TDP at Rajahmundry but lost to Undavalli Arun Kumar by a mere 8000 odd votes and he is all set to contest again from there.
Babu Mohan was an ex-MLA from the TDP elected from Andhol. Kota Srinivasa Rao too was an ex-MLA from Vijayawada. Jayaprada is now an MP from Rampur, UP. Coming up next is Nandamoori Bala Krishna aka Balayya who is expected to contest from TDP for the next general assembly polls. Some of the actors like Raja and Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam are with YSR Congress. There are many from our state who had a good go at the Indian politics but how far they have succeed is the burning question. Did they all join the political stream to serve people? Or for power? Or just to earn things? Well, people do have answers for all those !
